Golden Milk Recipe


It was cold and damp last night and I had this craving for a comforting warm drink. My first thought was hot chocolate of course! But chocolate is already a big part of my life. I probably eat a bit more than I should.. but it's so high in Magnesium and antioxidants right? Yes, chocolate does have health benefits but I've also been trying to encourage more variety in my diet. So Golden Milk to the rescue! I had learned about this super powerful drink in my Ayurveda classes and am well aware of it's benefits but had never tried it myself. It is easy to make and so soothing and comforting! It is a great drink for this change in season when it is beneficial to add more warming foods to our diet. The benefits: anti-inflammatory, high in anti-oxidants, reduces muscle soreness and menstrual cramps, anti-depressant, and boosts brain function.



Try it yourself:

- 2 cups of unsweetened milk (I used soy)

- 1 tsp of ground turmeric

- 1 small piece of fresh ginger (mine was between a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch)

- 1/2 tsp of cinnamon

- 1 pinch of black pepper (to increase absorption)

-1tsp to 1 tbsp of raw honey or maple syrup (to taste) *if you decide to use honey wait to add it at the end in your cup, don't heat it up in the pan.


Blend all ingredients until smooth. Heat in a saucepan until hot but no boiling.
